Natural Resources Research Center
Research center of the Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí devoted to biotechnology applied to the rational and sustainable use of the natural resources of western Panama.
History
CIRN began in 1997 as the Natural Resources Laboratory, within a programme for the sustainable use of agro-industrial residues through edible mushroom cultivation biotechnology. For ten years it developed mushroom cultivation biotechnology: strain conservation, spawn improvement, the study of Panamanian fungal biodiversity, bioconversion of agro-industrial residues into high value-added products, compost production and the biological treatment of industrial effluents. In 2006 it became the Natural Resources Research Center, created and regulated under UNACHI's Organic Law 6 and the University Statute.
Mission
To generate knowledge on the use of natural resources through biotechnological research, specialized analysis of raw materials, technical advisory services and technology transfer to producers in the agro-industrial sector.
Vision
To be a research and development center in biotechnology applied to the rational and sustainable use of natural resources, through organized and innovative work that adds value to the raw materials of our region.
Objectives
